Plans for high-performance sport and wider public participation were reviewed at the Presidential Secretariat on 29 October during discussions on the following year’s sports budget.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake asked officials to develop programmes that would support international sporting success while encouraging healthier daily activity.
Proposals included a National High Performance Centre, a synthetic running track in Anuradhapura and further work at Diyagama and Sugathadasa stadiums. Officials also discussed research involving sports medicine institutions and universities.
The President highlighted the need for accurate records of grounds, walking paths and indoor facilities, alongside programmes encouraging their use. The meeting reviewed proposed projects and future work rather than announcing that all facilities had been completed.
