Sri Lanka’s education reforms should give more space to skills, creativity and practical learning, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said at a public lecture in Colombo on 12 August.
The discussion centred on assessment practices and the effects of excessive dependence on examinations. The Prime Minister described changes to assessment as an important part of the wider reform programme.
She also highlighted digital literacy for teachers, principals and parents, and called for academic and vocational pathways to receive equal recognition.
The event, organised by the US–Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, featured specialist Priyanvada Abeywickrama. The Prime Minister said the reform process would build on existing strengths while drawing on local and international expertise.
