Sri Lanka introduced an online application process for concessionary railway season tickets for public employees, with institutional registration launched on 9 June.
Representatives of 35 state institutions attended the opening event in Battaramulla. The programme was intended to make the tickets available through the Pravesha platform from July.
Employees were asked to coordinate registration with the designated officer in their institution. Applications for July passes were scheduled to open on 15 June through the mobile application and website.
The initiative was implemented through the Colombo Suburban Railway Project with the Railways Department and Transport Ministry. Its stated purpose was to simplify access and improve the administration of a service used regularly by public-sector commuters.
