A nutrition allowance programme for 1,500 school athletes was presented at the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry on 8 June.
Under Kreeda Shakthi, selected athletes were to receive Rs. 10,000 a month for March through December, a total of Rs. 100,000 each. The ceremony included symbolic presentations to 100 recipients.
The beneficiaries were under-18 competitors across a range of sports, selected using school competition performances and national or international rankings.
The ministry described the assistance as support for sustained training and progression towards national teams and overseas competition. It aimed to reduce financial obstacles faced by promising young athletes, alongside access to facilities and equipment.
