VEN. (DR) HAMMALAWA SADDHATISSA NAYAKA THERO’S COMMEMORATION CEREMONY
The Sri Saddhatisa International Buddhist Centre observed the 27th Anniversary of the passing away of the Most Venerable Dr. Hammalawa Saddhatissa Nayaka Thero with an all-night pirith chanting ceremony on Saturday 18th February 2017 and Heel Dana on Sunday 19th April 2017.
The programme began with the Buddha Pujava conducted by Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero at 7.00PM on the 18th. The Paritta chanting began at 8.00PM
Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi MBE, Head of SSIBC and Chief Sangha Nayaka of the UK made opening remarks about the significance of the occasion and then introduced the rest of the Maha Sangha present and participating in the ceremony. The Anusasanavas were given by Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero and Ven.Kongasdeniye Ananda Nayaka Thero.
The large crowd present in the refurbished new hall of the SSIBC were surprised to see the large numbers of Maha Sangha present on this occasion. They were also amazed to witness such a colourful and intricately designed Pirith Mandapaya, the creation of the well-known master craftsman, Mr Jayaratne Bandara assisted by capable devotees like Mr Gunaratne Araliya, Mr Indika Munasinghe, Mr Indika Singappuli and many others. The devotees also prepared a sumptuous meal afterwards and during the night- The heel Dana on the 19th was also well organised. After the Dana the transfer of merits ceremony took place with the nephew of the late Ven. Hammalawa Saddhatisaa Nayaka Thero, Mr Nihal Bannaheka participating with Aggamahapandita Galayaye Piydassi Thero.
Mr Mano Warnapala, Counsellor Consular Affairs and Events of the High Commission and other officials of the High Commission, Mr Nalin Perera, Public Relations Officer of the Ceylon Tourist Board, Bank of Ceylon Officials Sri Lankan Airlines Officials were present at the Pirith chanting.
All arrangements were coordinated by Mr Sumanasiri Rankothge, Mr Araliya Gunaratne, Mrs Ramya Jayawardena, Mr and Mrs Manju Wickremarathchi, Mr and Mrs Sriya Weerakoon, Ms Vinitha Talpawila, MrsNita Gurusinghe, Ms Susantha Mudalige and other devotees.
Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Sangha Nayaka Thero was extremely pleased with all the arrangements and profusely thanked the Dayakayas for their loyalty and help.
