No room for Casinos- President Rajapaksa

President Rajapaksa has emphatically mentioned that there is no room for the introduction of casinos.  The President highlighted that although permission has been granted for the construction of luxury hotels, the establishment of casinos had not approved. Opportunities have been afforded for foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Sri Lanka. Accordingly a star hotel will be coming up along D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha in Colombo. The President made these remarks at a meeting with editors of national newspapers and representatives of the print and electronic media at Temple Trees this morning (24 April).

The President declares open the Manmunai Bridge linking Batticaloa and Ampara Districts

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the newly constructed Manmunai Bridge in Batticaloa this afternoon (19 April) marking another milestone in the country’s development. It connects the Batticaloa and Ampara Districts. This new bridge across Batticaloa lagoon on Colombo-Batticaloa A4 road via Pothuvil has been constructed at a cost of 1,870 million rupees fulfilling a long felt need of the people in the Eastern Province.

5550 farmer families in Mahaweli B and C Zones receive land deeds

5550 farmer families in Mahaweli B and C Zones received ownership deeds today (April 19) at a ceremony held at Girandurukotte under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The President handed over the land deeds for the Mahaweli farmers under the 3rd stage of the National Programme of Presentation of Land Deeds. The programme is implemented according to a pledge given by the President in response to a request made by Mahaweli farmers at a meeting held at Dehiattakandiya. The distribution of these lands among the farmer families commenced on the 31st of December last year.
